NNPC honours D’Tigress for historic AfroBasket victory

The Chairman of the NNPC Ltd. Board, Engr. Musa Ahmadu Kida, on Tuesday led the company’s senior management in welcoming Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, to the NNPC Towers in Abuja, in celebration of their recent triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

D’Tigress, accompanied by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mr. Shehu Dikko, were honoured for clinching their fifth consecutive and seventh overall continental title after defeating Mali 78-64 in the final held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Kida, who also serves as President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), lauded the team’s historic achievement and unbeaten record in Africa over the past decade. He praised their resilience, discipline, and consistency, describing the team as a symbol of national pride.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, also commended the team and pledged the company’s continued support for sports development in Nigeria.

NNPC staff turned out in large numbers to celebrate the champions, as the team’s head coach, Rene Wakama, and captain, Amy Okonkwo, expressed appreciation to the Board, Management, and staff for the warm reception.
