Army probes reported incident on Nsukka–Igbo Eze South road

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into a recent incident involving its personnel and civilians along the Nsukka–Igbo Eze South Road in Enugu State, following the circulation of a video on social media.

According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the encounter occurred during a routine security check in Igbo Eze South Local Government Area. While such checks are part of efforts to enhance public safety, the Division stressed that it treats all allegations of misconduct with utmost seriousness.

A thorough inquiry has been instituted to ascertain the facts, with findings to be made public. The Division assured that any personnel found culpable would face disciplinary measures in line with military regulations.

The statement reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to professionalism, strict adherence to its Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct, and the promotion of positive civil-military relations. It also acknowledged the role of the public and media in reporting incidents.
