Tinubu embarks on visits to Japan, Brazil

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, in Japan, the President will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled for August 20–22 in Yokohama. Themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, the forum will focus on advancing Africa’s economic transformation, strengthening institutions, and promoting sustainable development through private investment and innovation.

Beyond the plenary sessions, President Tinubu will engage in bilateral meetings and discussions with Japanese business leaders whose companies have investments in Nigeria. TICAD, launched in 1993 by the Japanese government in partnership with the UN, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, serves as a high-level policy dialogue platform between African leaders and development partners.

Following TICAD9, the President will travel to Brasilia from August 24 to 25 for a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. His engagements will include a bilateral meeting, a business forum with Brazilian investors, and the signing of cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding.

The delegation will comprise key ministers and senior government officials.
