Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest suspects, recover arms in Akwa Ibom and Nasarawa

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its crackdown on violent crimes, rescuing a kidnap victim, arresting three suspects, and recovering sophisticated firearms, ammunition, and millions of naira in Akwa Ibom and Nasarawa States.

‎In a statement on Sunday 31st August, 2025 Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, on August 16, police operatives responding to a distress call foiled a kidnapping attempt, rescuing one victim, Emerson, and arresting two suspects. A search of a nearby bush uncovered an AK-47 rifle, an assault rifle, 67 rounds of ammunition, a pump-action shotgun with six cartridges, six magazines, and a mobile phone. Manhunt efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members.

In Nasarawa State, on August 18, operatives of Garaku Division discovered a cache of weapons and ₦6.9 million in cash from an abandoned Opel Vectra after a crash near Angwan Mayo. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed Tahir, who confessed to belonging to a seven-man kidnap gang linked to the abduction of a lawyer in Nyanya, Abuja.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the swift action of operatives, the collaboration with community members, and the vigilance of citizens whose timely information proved vital. He assured that the Police Force remains committed to ensuring criminals find no safe haven in Nigeria.
