Tinubu reinstates NTA DG, ED news, reverses fresh appointments

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reinstatement of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Mr. Ayo Adewuyi as Executive Director of News.

Dembos, who was first appointed in October 2023, had briefly vacated the role following management changes within the organization. With the President’s directive, he will now return to complete his three-year tenure. Similarly, Adewuyi, who was appointed in 2024, will also resume office to continue his tenure, which is expected to end in 2027.

In a statement, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga said the presidential directive effectively sets aside earlier announcements regarding new appointments in the agency, which included a fresh director-general, an executive director of news, an executive director of marketing, and a managing director of NTA Enterprises.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the move underscores the President’s commitment to ensuring stability, continuity, and adherence to due process in the management of federal institutions.

Analysts note that the decision may also reflect the administration’s intention to consolidate leadership within strategic public communication platforms such as the NTA, which plays a central role in shaping public information and national narratives.

President Tinubu has consistently emphasized that reforms in government agencies must align with merit, competence, and institutional stability. The reinstatement of Dembos and Adewuyi signals his resolve to strengthen media institutions to serve the public interest more effectively.
