The NNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Ltd., has extended its Vulnerable Farmers Training Programme to Northern Nigeria as part of efforts to boost food security, economic empowerment, and national development.
The second phase of the initiative will span the North East, North West, and North Central regions, with training sessions scheduled across six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Farmers will be equipped with modern agricultural practices such as climate-smart farming, organic fertilization, post-harvest loss reduction, and improved market access strategies.
The programme’s first phase, conducted in the South-East, South-South, and South-West, trained over 4,000 farmers and recorded notable success in transitioning participants from subsistence to sustainable farming.
Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda.
“At NNPC Ltd, we recognize that agriculture is the main source of livelihood for over 70% of Nigerians, yet many farmers remain stuck at subsistence level. This programme is designed to provide the knowledge, tools, and resources needed for commercial-scale production,” she noted.
The training aims to enhance productivity, improve livelihoods, and strengthen Nigeria’s food systems.
