The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has paid glowing tributes to the late Brigadier General Zakari Ahmadu Saidu, who served as the Academy’s TETFUND Desk Officer until his passing on 31 August 2025.
At a Special Executive Meeting held on 9 September at the Academy’s Loyalty Hall, senior officers, academics, and family members gathered to celebrate his life and service.
Speakers described Brig. Gen. Saidu, a member of the 41 Regular Course and seasoned armoured officer, as a courageous leader, mentor, and “problem solver.” The Commandant of NDA, Major General AK Ibrahim, praised him as a professional soldier whose contributions to the Academy’s academic and administrative progress would be remembered. He assured the bereaved family of the Academy’s continued support.
Tributes were also delivered by the NDA Provost, Engineer Prof. Isa Garba; the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. David Alahira; and Prof. BJ Ajibuah, Director of Linkages and Collaboration, who highlighted his role in strengthening partnerships and academic growth.
Military colleagues, including Brig. Gen. OA Ogunleye, Commodore RT Oladejo, Air Vice Marshal HI Alhaji, and AVM A. Abdulkadir, also shared fond memories. A minute’s silence, special prayers, a video documentary, and presentation of souvenirs to the family formed part of the solemn ceremony, which was attended by his son, Abdussamad Saidu, and his sister, Aishatu Saidu.
The event underscored the respect Brig. Gen. Saidu earned across military and academic circles. He is remembered as a dedicated officer whose legacy will endure within the NDA community.
