Troops intercept terrorist logistics, rescue victims in Zamfara, Sokoto

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have intercepted ransom payments, rescued abducted victims, and neutralized terrorists during a series of coordinated operations across Zamfara and Sokoto States.

In a statement Media Information Officer Operation FANSAN YAMMA Captain David Adewusi said between 8 and 10 September 2025, troops recovered over ₦23 million in ransom money, seized more than 160 rustled livestock, and freed kidnapped victims in Shinkafi, Gusau, Bukkuyum, and Tureta LGAs.

He said during operations along the Shinkafi–Katuru–Galadi–Tubali axis, troops cleared terrorist hideouts and intercepted suspects carrying ₦8.7 million and ₦15 million in ransom payments meant for abductors operating around Nigeria’s border with Niger Republic. The money and suspects were handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation.

In another strike, OPFY troops ambushed terrorists transporting rustled livestock in Anka and Tureta LGAs, rescuing eight victims and recovering 164 sheep. The victims were reunited with their families, while the livestock was returned to local authorities.

Meanwhile, troops on patrol in Gusau LGA repelled a terrorist ambush, killing six assailants. Five soldiers were lost in the encounter, including two who later died from injuries sustained.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against terrorism and banditry, urging residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
