The United States Embassy in Abuja has encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of educational opportunities in American universities, stressing that quality education abroad can help them improve their prospects and contribute to national development.
Speaking at the 2025 EducationUSA Fair in Abuja, the Public Diplomacy Officer at the US Embassy, Brian Neubert, described Nigerians as hardworking and determined, noting that thousands of them are already excelling in US institutions.
“We know that Nigerians hustle. Many study engineering, business, law, medicine, and other fields, and after graduation, they return to contribute to academia, media, business, and other sectors in Nigeria,” Neubert said.
The fair, themed “Empowering Future, Discover American Excellence in Education and Innovation,” showcased the benefits of studying in the US, including access to world-class facilities, diverse academic programs, and scholarship opportunities for outstanding students.

Neubert advised prospective students to plan ahead in the application process and make use of resources provided by EducationUSA, which offers free counseling services across Nigeria. He also emphasized the importance of responsible visa compliance to maximize opportunities abroad.
On financing, he explained that the embassy provides guidance to help students make informed choices, adding that exceptional students often benefit from scholarships.
Highlighting the long tradition of Nigerians excelling in US institutions, Neubert said their presence enriches campuses and strengthens people-to-people ties between both countries.
“The United States is proud to partner with Nigeria in empowering the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers,” he said.
