Nigeria @65: Zulum hails Tinubu, says peace and recovery efforts gaining ground

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians on the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary, praising the country’s resilience despite decades of challenges.

In a statement personally signed, Zulum highlighted the progress made in peace-building and recovery efforts in the North East, particularly in Borno, while commending President Tinubu for his leadership and support to security agencies.

“As we celebrate 65 years of nationhood, our reflections in Borno are particularly profound. Despite threats from Boko Haram, ISWAP, and other criminal elements, our gallant military and security forces are winning the battle. We must remain united to defeat our common enemy,” Zulum said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and driving development, noting that Borno had closed all official IDP camps in Maiduguri, resettled displaced persons in their ancestral homes, and provided livelihood support packages.

“Peace cannot be complete without restoration. We have undertaken the most ambitious resettlement programme in Nigeria. Thousands of houses have been built, critical infrastructure such as schools and health centres restored, and socio-economic activities have resumed in resettled communities,” he said.

Zulum also saluted the sacrifices of security forces and civilian volunteers who lost their lives in the fight against insurgency, pledging continued support to the military through operational vehicles, armoured carriers, communication gadgets, and frontline visits to boost morale.

He assured Borno people of his administration’s vision for a post-insurgency economy, stressing that the goal is not just survival but prosperity.

“Our resilience-building initiative is working. We are laying the foundation for a future where farmers can till their land, industries can thrive, and every family can sleep in peace,” the governor declared.
