Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recorded major successes in ongoing clearance operations under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, aimed at flushing out bandits and other criminal elements from Taraba State.

According to a statement by Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, acting on credible intelligence regarding bandits’ activities in Tarhembe, Tornyi, TY Farm, and Kando areas of Tati in Takum Local Government Area, as well as reports of farmland destruction in Ussa LGA, troops launched simultaneous clearance operations on 5 October 2025.

During the operation, Team A made contact with armed bandits at Tarhembe and Tornyi. The criminals, overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower, fled into the forest. A follow-up search led to the recovery of four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, and a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, Team B advanced through Kutukok, Konkan, Fank Utaih, Kijwu, Kutukwo, Kwesati, and Alaha communities in Ussa LGA. The team encountered no resistance but successfully cleared and destroyed several identified hideouts to deny the bandits freedom of action.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience. He urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to aid ongoing security efforts.

General Uwa reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, noting that the operations have significantly disrupted bandit activities and restored confidence among local communities.
