The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Monday, October 6, 2025, inaugurated its new Headquarters Annex Complex in Gudu, Abuja, marking a significant milestone in the Force’s ongoing transformation and modernization drive.
In a statement, Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force Air Commodore,Ehimen Ejodame said the newly commissioned facility, built to decongest the overstretched NAF Headquarters in Garki, is designed to enhance administrative efficiency, boost productivity, and improve personnel welfare. It also strengthens the Service’s institutional framework for effective airpower projection and national defence.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Defence, Dr. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, mni, commended the foresight and strategic leadership of the Nigerian Air Force, describing the project as “a reflection of excellence, vision, and resilience.”
He noted that since its establishment in 1964, the NAF has experienced tremendous growth in size and operational responsibility, making infrastructural expansion imperative. “The relocation of key branches such as the Air Secretary, Standards and Evaluation, Transformation and Innovation, as well as the 051 Personnel Management Group and an Annex of the Chief of the Air Staff’s Office, will ease congestion and provide a stronger institutional base for future operations,” the Minister stated.
Dr. Badaru lauded the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, for aligning the project with his Command Philosophy of fostering a highly motivated and professional Air Force through welfare enhancement and infrastructural renewal.
In his address, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar explained that the Gudu Annex was strategically acquired and remodelled to provide a conducive working environment and improve coordination across departments. “The commissioning of the Headquarters NAF Annex stands as a testament to our dynamism, resilience, and forward-looking posture,” he said, emphasizing that the facility reflects the Service’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and personnel welfare.
Both the Minister and the Chief of the Air Staff expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support and investment in defence sector reforms, which have enabled the Air Force to pursue infrastructural development and operational efficiency.
Following his remarks, Dr. Badaru officially commissioned the new complex, dedicating it to the glory of God and the service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Idi Sani, described the project as a defining milestone in the Air Force’s continuous evolution, representing “more than just the unveiling of a new structure, but a commitment to institutional excellence.”
The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Acting Chairman, Senate Committee on Air Force, Senator Augustine Akobundu; Chairman, House Committee on Air Force, Honourable Kabiru Al-Hassan Rurum; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Service Chiefs; senior military officers; and other distinguished guests.
