EFCC probes two travelers over undeclared 6,180,000 £53,415 cash at Lagos airport

Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Okotie Eboh, Ikoyi, Lagos, have commenced investigations into two travelers arrested for allegedly failing to declare substantial foreign currencies in their possession.

The suspects, identified as Mamud Nasidi and Yahaya Nasidi, were apprehended by operatives of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) during a routine check at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

According to the EFCC, the duo were found with undeclared sums totaling $6,180 and £53,415. They were reportedly traveling to Abuja after arriving in the country from Dubai via Addis Ababa.

Upon their arrest, the suspects were initially handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), which later transferred them to the EFCC for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Three mobile phones were also recovered from the suspects.

The suspects and the recovered exhibits were received by CSE Margaret Lamai on behalf of the Acting Zonal Director of Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Ahmed Ghali.
