Tinubu hails Super Eagles’ 4–0 win, urges team to sustain world cup hopes

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles on their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, commending the team for reigniting national pride and keeping alive Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President lauded the players for their hunger, passion, and determination during the match in Uyo, describing the performance as a source of renewed optimism for millions of football-loving Nigerians.

“While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs,” President Tinubu said. “The mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.”

Reaffirming his administration’s support, the President assured the team and coaching crew of the Federal Government’s continued backing as they strive to secure qualification.

“Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too. We look forward to seeing you fly our flag proudly on the world stage,” he said.
