Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in 19 new Commissioners alongside Chairmen and Members of various Boards and Commissions, urging them to uphold integrity, discipline, and dedication in service to the people of the state.
In a statement Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Edo State Owaen Fred Itua said the swearing-in ceremony, held at the Government House, Benin City, was attended by top dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi (SAN); the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikilor; the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gani Audu; as well as serving Commissioners, Special Advisers, Heads of MDAs, and other senior government officials.
Governor Okpebholo, in his address, emphasized that all appointments were based on merit, noting that the positions were not rewards but calls to serve the people of Edo State.
“Your nominations did not come as rewards or patronage but as a call to serve. This administration came into office on the promise of practical governance that directly impacts the lives of our people,” he said.
The Governor reaffirmed that his administration’s priority is service delivery and measurable results rather than propaganda, charging the new appointees to focus on performance and accountability.
“Our focus is not on propaganda, but on tangible results that can be felt in every community across Edo State,” Okpebholo stated.
He warned against corruption and personal enrichment, stressing that his administration would not tolerate any form of misconduct.
“You are not here for money-making but for service, sacrifice, and a better life for Edo people. This administration has zero tolerance for corruption. You are expected to demonstrate discipline, teamwork, and loyalty to the people,” he cautioned.
Governor Okpebholo further reiterated his commitment to rebuilding and repositioning Edo State for sustainable growth and development.
“Today marks another important step in our journey to rebuild and reposition Edo State. Together, let us prove that government can work for the people and write a new chapter where service comes before self,” he declared.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Hon. Ebea Festus Odianonsen thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their full support for his administration’s developmental agenda.
“We will work tirelessly to deliver on your vision of effective governance and ensure that all your promises to the people of Edo State and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are fulfilled,” Odianonsen assured.
