Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), in a joint operation with personnel from Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), have arrested two notorious gunrunners and recovered a large cache of ammunition in Kaduna State.
Confirming the report, Media Information Officer, JTF Operation Enduring Peace Major Samson Nantip Zhakom said the operation, conducted on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, followed credible intelligence from an agency in Plateau State. The suspects, identified as Abdullahi Balarabe (40) and his wife, Shafaatu Abdullahi (18), were intercepted at a snap checkpoint on the outskirts of Saminaka, in Lere Local Government Area.
According to the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), the troops recovered 1,207 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, believed to have been destined for armed groups operating across the North West region.
The suspects and the recovered ammunition are currently in military custody for further investigation aimed at dismantling the wider gunrunning network.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, JTF OPEP, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended the troops for their bravery, vigilance, and professionalism, noting that the success of the operation highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in combating crime and insecurity. “We remain resolute in our commitment to restoring lasting peace and security. The troops will not relent in eradicating the activities of terrorists and criminal elements to ensure peace and prosperity across the region,” Major General Oyinlola stated.
