The Nigerian Army has recorded major operational gains in its ongoing nationwide offensive against terrorists and criminal networks, including the seizure of a massive cache of light machine gun ammunition in Zamfara State.
In a decisive operation in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara, troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 6 neutralized a terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle.
Similarly, in Ngaski, Kebbi State, troops of 1 Battalion (Rear) repelled a coordinated attack on five communities. The fierce three-hour encounter forced the terrorists to flee under superior firepower. The operation led to the recovery of over 700 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, three motorcycles, and communication devices, as well as the rescue of a kidnapped victim.
In the North-East, troops of 112 Task Force Battalion in Mafa, Borno State, foiled an ISWAP attack, killing two terrorists and recovering two AK-47 rifles. Also, in Gujba, Yobe State, soldiers of 27 Task Force Brigade, in collaboration with hybrid forces and local hunters, ambushed and neutralized two terrorists, seizing motorcycles and logistics supplies.
Air and artillery components of Operation HADIN KAI also delivered precision strikes on terrorist enclaves around Mallam Fatori in Borno State, disrupting an attempted incursion from the Lake Chad region. The coordinated action with the Nigerien Air Force further amplified the impact of the operation.
In Monguno, Borno State, Sector 3 troops arrested 13 suspects without credible identification during a cordon and search operation, disrupting terrorist logistics networks.
In the North-West, personnel of 3 Brigade, Kano, apprehended three suspected kidnappers and a known terrorist collaborator listed on the security watchlist.
Meanwhile, troops in the South-South region sustained pressure on oil thieves, uncovering an illegal oil dump at an abandoned petrol station in Enugu North, where two suspects were arrested and 90,000 litres of illegally refined products recovered. Similar operations in Delta and Rivers States led to the arrest of six suspects and the destruction of several illegal refining sites.
Joint operations with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bayelsa and Lagos States also led to the arrest of 32 drug dealers and the seizure of large quantities of cannabis and other illicit substances.
Troops further thwarted kidnapping attempts in Katsina and Plateau States, rescuing three victims and arresting four bandits’ informants and logistics suppliers. In Gwagwalada, Abuja, 176 Guards Battalion intercepted a suspected arms courier with a Beretta pistol and 9mm ammunition.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist and criminal networks nationwide, noting that the series of successes reflect the troops’ professionalism, resilience, and gallantry in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring peace and stability.
