Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued ten victims from armed abductors in Benue State.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer for OPWS, the operation took place on 3 November 2025 when troops deployed at Kyado, while on patrol along the Zaki-Biam–Wukari Road, received credible intelligence about an ongoing abduction at a location identified as Quarantine Checkpoint.
The kidnappers, reportedly disguised in police uniforms, were attempting to deceive unsuspecting travellers when the troops swiftly mobilised to the area. On sighting the soldiers, the criminals fled into nearby bushes. The troops pursued the suspects and, during an extensive search, successfully rescued ten kidnapped victims.
Among those rescued was Warrant Officer John Richard of the 6 Brigade Band, Jalingo. Two other victims remain unaccounted for as search operations continue. The rescued individuals have been safely debriefed and handed over to relevant authorities for further action.
The Force Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their gallantry, swift response, and professionalism. He also praised the tactical commander for his effective leadership and proactive approach in curbing criminal activities in the region.
General Gara assured the troops that their sacrifices and commitment to national security will be duly recognised, urging them to sustain the momentum, maintain high morale, and continue upholding discipline and professionalism in all operations.
