Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intensified efforts to rid Benue State and adjoining areas of criminal elements threatening peace and stability, with the arrest of three suspected criminals in Ohimini Local Government Area.
The suspects — John Isaac (22), Baba Emmanuel (17), and Sunday Thomas (19) — all residents of Otukpo Local Government Area, were apprehended on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, during a routine patrol along the Otukpo–Enugu Road at the Amoda Axis.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke, the suspects were intercepted while riding a motorcycle and subjected to a search based on credible intelligence.
During the search, troops recovered a locally made pistol, one cartridge, three mobile phones, and ₦20,200 from the suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that they were likely en route to carry out a criminal operation before being intercepted by the troops.
The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation and prosecution.
The Force Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and vigilance, noting that their timely intervention prevented a potential security breach.
He urged the troops to sustain the momentum of operations and enhance surveillance, particularly to safeguard farmers and rural communities during the ongoing harvest season.
General Gara reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Whirl Stroke to maintaining peace and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States, assuring residents of the military’s continued dedication to protecting lives and property.
