The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken sweeping disciplinary action against some of its most prominent figures, expelling former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, and several others for alleged anti-party activities.
The decision, reached during the party’s 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, was ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates, signalling a decisive move by the party leadership to cleanse its ranks and reinforce internal discipline.
According to party officials, the expulsions followed thorough reviews of petitions and reports that accused the affected members of actions deemed detrimental to the unity and electoral prospects of the PDP. The leadership noted that persistent internal sabotage, public criticism of the party, and open fraternising with rival political interests had violated core party principles.
In his remarks, the Acting National Chairman declared that the party could no longer afford distractions as it prepares strategically for the 2027 general elections. He emphasised that the PDP must emerge stronger, more united, and focused on reclaiming power at the national level.
Delegates at the convention applauded the decision, describing it as a bold and necessary step toward restoring cohesion and credibility within the party. Many expressed confidence that the disciplinary measures would deter future infractions and reassure loyal members of the party’s commitment to fairness and order.
The convention, which continues in Ibadan, is expected to produce further resolutions aimed at restructuring the party, strengthening its internal democracy, and repositioning the PDP as a formidable opposition force in the country’s political landscape.
