Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade have successfully repelled a terrorist ambush near Wajiroko in the Azir–Multe area of Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State. The soldiers, who were returning from a routine patrol along the fringes of the Sambisa Forest, came under sudden and heavy fire from insurgents.
In a statement, Acting Director, Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Appolonia Anele said the patrol team, led by the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, and comprising soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), fought back decisively. Their superior firepower forced the attackers to retreat in disarray, abandoning their objective.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF operatives were killed in action during the encounter. The Army High Command commiserated with the families and colleagues of the fallen personnel, praising their courage and ultimate sacrifice.
In a statement, the Army also dismissed circulating online reports alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander, describing the claims as false and urging the public to disregard them.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, lauded the bravery, resilience and unwavering commitment of the troops, noting that they continue to serve in one of the country’s most challenging operational environments. He reiterated the Army’s resolve to sustain ongoing counterterrorism operations and safeguard communities across the region.
