DSS arrests major arms supplier linked to terror groups in Plateau

The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismantled a major arms supply network fueling terrorist activities in Plateau State and surrounding regions, following the arrest of an alleged high-profile arms dealer, Musa Abubakar.

The operation, conducted on November 12, 2025, was based on precise and actionable intelligence. A senior security source disclosed that Abubakar confessed to manufacturing and distributing high-calibre weapons and ammunition to armed groups responsible for violent attacks in Plateau and other northern states.

DSS operatives reportedly executed a targeted raid on Abubakar’s workshop in the Mista Ali area of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, after an extended period of surveillance on both his residence and manufacturing site.

According to the source, Abubakar was arrested “red-handed” with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components, chemicals, and specialised equipment, all of which were seized during the operation.

The breakthrough comes on the heels of the recent recapture of Abdulazeez Obadaki, also known as Bomboy, a Kuje Prison escapee and mastermind of the Owo and Deeper Life Church attacks.

Security analysts say the latest string of operations underscores the DSS’s renewed drive to disrupt terrorist networks and strengthen national security.

It will be recalled that the agency had earlier arrested nine high-profile suspects linked to attacks in Plateau and Benue states, including 46-year-old Timna Manjol of First Baptist Church, Mangu LGA, who has already pleaded guilty to two of four counts, including illegal possession of firearms, in case number FHC/ABJ/CR/451/2025.
