House of Representatives mourns Enugu North Senator Okechukwu Ezea

The House of Representatives has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Senator Okechukwu Ezea, the distinguished lawmaker representing Enugu North Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly.

According to his family, Senator Ezea died late Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the age of 62 after a brief illness. At the time of his death, he served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committees on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, and Culture and Creative Economy.

Ezea, elected to the Senate in February 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, was a lawyer, entrepreneur, and administrator known for his statesmanship and dedication to legislative excellence. His work reflected a strong commitment to national cohesion, institutional development, and cultural and continental integration.

News of his passing was received during Wednesday’s plenary, prompting the House to suspend legislative business and adjourn until next Tuesday in his honour.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, described the loss as “heartbreaking and unfortunate,” praising Senator Ezea as a “gentleman and fine lawmaker who carried out his duties diligently.” Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR, also commended Ezea’s commitment to national development and democratic governance, noting the void his death leaves at a time when experienced leadership is vital.

The House extended heartfelt condolences to Senator Ezea’s family, constituents, the government and people of Enugu State, the Senate, and the National Assembly, praying that his legacy of leadership, humility, and service will endure.
