Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a notorious kidnap suspect in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, marking another significant breakthrough under Operation Zafin Wuta.
According to Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the suspect, identified as Umar Musa Geyi, was apprehended on 22 November 2025 at Jandei-Kulamu following credible intelligence. Security sources confirmed that Geyi, long on the wanted list of law enforcement agencies, is a key member of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for repeated attacks and abductions across Wukari and its environs.
Preliminary findings revealed that Geyi is linked to the abduction of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei-Kulala area, who was kidnapped on 13 November and remains in captivity. Troops intercepted the suspect while he was engaged in a phone conversation, during which he reportedly confirmed the victim was still alive and demanded a ransom of ₦20 million.
Geyi is currently in military custody as investigations continue, with efforts underway to locate and rescue the victim.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their swift and coordinated operation. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across Taraba State.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely, credible information to support ongoing operations.
