Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a major drug courier transporting a large consignment of Cannabis Sativa from Ekiti State to Obajana, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the movement of illicit substances that fuel crime across Kogi State.
According to Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the operation took place on 24 November 2025, when soldiers stationed at the Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU. The driver, identified as Mr. Johnson Ayo, had a branded police cap and belt displayed on the dashboard, heightening suspicion.
A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 108.8 kilograms, concealed inside the car. Preliminary investigations indicate that drug consignments of this scale provide financial support to criminal networks and contribute to rising banditry in Kogi and neighbouring states.
The suspect and the recovered items have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking, curbing the enablers of banditry, and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
