Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has announced the safe release of all students abducted from Government Girls’ College, Maga, last week.
Speaking at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, an elated Governor Idris expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security agencies, and well-meaning Nigerians for their efforts, support, and prayers throughout the crisis.
“We are very happy to announce the release of our students who were abducted from GGCSS Maga. We have received credible confirmation from our security agencies, acting on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that all the girls have been rescued. They are in good health and are currently on their way to Birnin Kebbi,” the governor said.
Governor Idris commended the President for his swift intervention and unwavering concern for the people of Kebbi State. He also praised the Police, DSS, Military, Civil Defence, and other supporting outfits for their professionalism and tireless efforts in securing the release of the students.
“The security agencies took the President’s directive seriously and have worked tirelessly since the incident occurred. We thank them sincerely for their dedication,” he added.
He further disclosed that families of the rescued girls are also on their way to Birnin Kebbi ahead of a formal handover ceremony scheduled for Wednesday. After the ceremony, the students will reunite with their parents and return to their communities.
The governor also expressed sympathy over the deaths of the school’s vice principal and a private security guard during the attack, while appreciating the prayers and solidarity shown by individuals and groups across the country.
“We thank everyone who prayed day and night for the safe return of our daughters. We thank the security agencies, Mr. President, and all well-wishers who stood by us,” he said.
