Headquarters 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has dismissed as false and malicious recent social media reports alleging internal power tussles, welfare neglect, and financial exploitation within the 90 Battalion in Koko.
In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the Division described the claims as an unsubstantiated attempt to blackmail the battalion’s leadership and undermine the Army’s command structure.
The Division clarified that postings and deployments in the Nigerian Army are routine administrative exercises conducted without religious, ethnic, or personal bias, contrary to the allegations circulating online. It warned that suggestions of religious-based postings or loyalty-driven deployments were “malicious and aimed at institutional blackmail.”
Reaffirming the Army’s commitment to professionalism, the statement stressed that the Nigerian Army maintains zero tolerance for corruption, welfare abuse, or any form of misconduct within its ranks. The Commanding Officer of 90 Battalion, it added, has been carrying out his duties professionally and within available resources.
The Division further noted that the Army has established channels for addressing administrative complaints at all levels, including battalion commands. Any personnel bypassing these channels to push unfounded claims on social media, it said, may be acting in bad faith.
While urging the public to disregard the allegations, the Army assured that any credible report of misconduct—particularly those related to extortion—would be investigated thoroughly.
The statement also reiterated the Division’s commitment to ensuring the security and safety of communities within the Niger Delta region.
