The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Kemi Nanna Nandap, has placed all border formations nationwide on red alert following an on-the-spot assessment of the Bakin Ruwa Checkpoint in Kebbi State, where unidentified armed men recently launched a deadly attack.
Nandap conducted the assessment on Thursday, 4 December 2025, visiting the Tuga Border Patrol Formation to inspect the level of damage, evaluate operational vulnerabilities, and strengthen the immediate security response. The attack claimed the lives of three Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officers and destroyed operational assets.
During the visit, the CGI inspected affected facilities and received a comprehensive briefing from field personnel on the circumstances of the assault. She assured officers that decisive measures were being taken to reinforce border security along the Tuga axis.
Ahead of the visit, Nandap held a series of strategic engagements on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, with the Kebbi State Government and the Gwandu Emirate Council. She met with Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, members of the State Executive Council, and the Emir of Gwandu, Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Muhammed Ilyasu Bashir (rtd.), as part of efforts to coordinate enhanced countermeasures in the area.
The discussions focused on boosting joint operations, strengthening intelligence sharing, and deploying tactical resources to restore stability and prevent further attacks on border personnel and infrastructure.
Nandap extended her condolences to the families of the three fallen officers, describing them as gallant patriots who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria’s borders. She reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to supporting their families and directed the immediate enhancement of welfare and protective measures for officers serving in high-risk border locations.
