Nigerian Army  troops strike team neutralizes 11 bandits in Sokoto, recovers arms cache

Troops of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West (Operation Hadarin Daji), have eliminated 11 bandits and recovered a significant cache of weapons during a swift ambush operation in Sokoto State.

The operation, executed by the Division’s Strike Team deployed for counter-banditry and counter-terrorism duties, took place near Kurawa Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area. According to military sources, the mission disrupted a planned attack on Tara Village, a key transit route frequently exploited by bandit and terrorist elements.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops laid a coordinated ambush that resulted in an intense exchange of fire. Eleven bandits were neutralized, while several others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds. Recovered items from the scene included eight AK-47 rifles, five additional magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

Military authorities described the operation as a major setback for criminal networks operating within the Sabon Birni corridor, an area that has witnessed heightened bandit activity in recent months. They emphasized that the proactive engagement by the Strike Team prevented a potentially deadly attack and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Sokoto and neighbouring communities.

The 8 Division reiterated its determination to sustain pressure on armed groups and restore peace and stability across the region.
