NEMA receives 147 Nigerian returnees from Niger republic

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 147 Nigerian nationals repatriated from Niamey, Niger Republic, under the Assisted Voluntary Return programme.

The returnees arrived at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Sunday, 8 December 2025, at about 1:00 p.m. aboard an Asky Airlines flight. The operation was coordinated by NEMA’s Kano Operations Office in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), and other supporting agencies.

Upon arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation. The returnees were subsequently transported to the NIS Training School in Kano, where they underwent comprehensive profiling on Monday, 9 December 2025, to support their reintegration into society.

Authorities noted that the reception exercise was carried out in an orderly manner, with priority given to the safety, dignity, and welfare of all individuals.

A demographic breakdown of the returnees shows:

  • Adult males: 118

  • Male children: 11

  • Adult females: 15

  • Female children: 3
    Total: 147

NEMA reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to facilitating the voluntary repatriation and reintegration of Nigerians stranded abroad in accordance with international standards.
