 NNPC confirms explosion along Escravos–Lagos Pipeline near Gbaramatu communities

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company  (NNPC) Limited has confirmed an explosion along the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline, reported at approximately 17:50 hours on 10 December 2025 near Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.

In a statement Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd. Abuja Andy Odeh said preliminary assessments revealed a pressure drop indicative of a possible loss of containment on a pipeline operated by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC). The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, pending the outcome of a detailed investigation.

He stated that NNPC immediate priority is the safety of residents in the affected communities and the protection of the surrounding environment. Emergency response measures have been activated, with the company collaborating closely with relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated mitigation effort.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards. Additional updates will be communicated as verified information becomes available.
