Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully thwarted a coordinated assault by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mairari, delivering a significant blow to the group’s operational capabilities in the area. The attack, which commenced late on 12 December 2025 and continued into the early hours of 13 December, was repelled through coordinated ground and air operations.
During the assault, terrorists attempted to breach the base using two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs). Both devices were promptly detected and neutralised by OPHK troops, preventing any penetration of the base. Surveillance footage and field reports confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while others sustained injuries as surviving elements evacuated their dead and wounded.
Following the failed attack, troops from OPHK Sector 3, supported by the Theatre Command Quick Reaction Group, the Nigeria Police Crack Team, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), conducted a thorough sweep of the area. The operation led to the discovery of multiple terrorist casualties and the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and other logistics abandoned during their retreat.
Recovered materials included AK-47 rifles, magazines, PKT rounds, hand grenades, motorcycles, communication devices, combat gear, medical supplies, and other items indicative of sustained terrorist operations. The neutralisation of the two VBIEDs caused limited damage to the surrounding road, but the FOB remained secure, underscoring the preparedness and vigilance of the troops.
OPHK forces are continuing aggressive patrols in the area to prevent further terrorist activity and reassure local communities of ongoing security.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), reaffirmed the troops’ commitment to decisively defeat all terrorist elements and restore lasting peace across the North East. He emphasised that the failed Mairari attack demonstrates the professionalism, readiness, and resilience of the security forces.
Operation HADIN KAI continues to prioritise civilian protection, disruption of terrorist networks, and the restoration of stability across the region.
