NSCDC disciplines 76 personnel over misconduct

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sanctioned 76 personnel across various ranks for offences ranging from gross misconduct to dereliction of duty, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen discipline and professionalism within the service.

The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, said the disciplinary actions were concluded in 2025 and involved both senior and junior officers, stressing that the measures were intended to serve as a deterrent and reinforce adherence to established rules and ethical standards.

According to Audi, the sanctions followed recommendations by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), as well as the NSCDC Senior and Junior Staff Disciplinary Committees. He disclosed that 38 senior officers, including an Assistant Commandant General, were dismissed for offences such as gross misconduct, insubordination and acts unbecoming of superior officers, in line with the Public Service Rules.

In addition, two senior officers were demoted by two ranks, one officer was demoted by one rank with loss of seniority, while five others received warning letters.

On the junior cadre, Audi said the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee considered 30 cases involving job racketeering, extortion, aiding and abetting illegal petroleum dealings, fraud, gun running, absence without leave and other serious violations. Following the review, 20 junior personnel were dismissed, three were demoted by one rank, and seven were issued warning letters.

The Commandant General reiterated that while the Corps rewards exceptional performance, loyalty and dedication to national service, it would not tolerate truancy, indiscipline or violation of extant laws, ethics and the NSCDC code of conduct.

He also highlighted reforms and achievements under his leadership, including the clearance of promotion arrears, introduction of Career Progression Courses, a life insurance compensation scheme for families of fallen personnel, improved compliance with the federal character principle, and strengthened gender inclusiveness.

Audi urged officers and men of the Corps to remain focused on their statutory mandate, emphasizing professionalism, loyalty and regimental discipline. He further affirmed the Corps’ readiness to undertake the newly assigned VIP protection duties by presidential directive, noting that despite manpower constraints, NSCDC personnel were prepared to deliver on the responsibility.
