PSC promotes 1 to DIG, 7 to AIGs,13 to CPs, 30 to DCPs and 700+ senior police officers

 The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of over 700 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to various higher ranks, following a rigorous written examination and oral interview exercise concluded on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

According to statement signed by Mr. Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Police Service Commission, the promotion exercise, held at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, was presided over by the PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, mni.

Among those elevated is Assistant Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Usman Gumel, who was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG). Until his promotion, Gumel served as AIG in charge of the Community Policing Project (CPP) Department, Research and Planning, at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The Commission also promoted seven Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. They include Ihebom Chukwuma (FCID, Abuja), Maxwell Olatokunbo (K9), Abaniwonda Olufemi (Delta State), Alonyenu Francis Idu (Bayelsa State), Lawal B. Ayodeji (AHTU, FCID Annex Lagos), Agene Emmanuel (FCID, Kaduna), and Vungmoh S. M. Kwaimo (Railway Command).

Thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police. Those promoted include Babalola Ayodeji Johnson (NPF NCCC), Ali Umar Fage (DFA, Port Authority Lagos), Cyril Uche Obiozo (Cross River Command), Adepegba K. Adetoye (Edo Command), Tabitha Bako (AHTU, FCID), Ofem Ikpi Arikpo (Bayelsa Command), Edwin Ogbeghagha (Zone 17 Akure), Audu Garba Bosso (Borno State Command), Samuel Yerima Gimba (Benue State), Alhaji Mohammed Danladi (Taraba State), Richard Bala Gara (Nasarawa State), Lasisi Adekunle Titilola (X-Squad FID, Lagos), and John Obiuagbaka (Staff College, Jos).

In addition, 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to Deputy Commissioners of Police, while 51 Chief Superintendents of Police were elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The PSC also approved the promotion of 542 Superintendents of Police to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police, as well as 119 Deputy Superintendents of Police to the rank of Superintendent of Police. Twelve Assistant Superintendents of Police were similarly promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) urged them to rise to the demands of their new ranks with renewed dedication, professionalism, and integrity.

He stressed that promotion comes with increased responsibility and higher public expectations, calling on the officers to rededicate themselves to effective policing, the protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of law and order. Argungu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to regular, merit-based promotions in line with global best practices.
