Yuletide: NSCDC deploys 55,000 personnel to bolster national security

In a massive bid to forestall security breaches during the festive season, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the nationwide deployment of 55,000 operatives. The move aims to safeguard citizens and protect critical national infrastructure throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, issued the directive as part of a comprehensive strategy to fortify the nation’s security architecture. The deployment comes amid concerns that criminal elements often exploit the increased activity of the yuletide period to carry out acts of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

Central to this year’s security strategy is an intensified focus on intelligence gathering. Speaking on the deployment, Prof. Audi emphasized that the success of the operation relies heavily on the synergy between the Corps and the general public. “To prevent crimes rather than react to them, it is imperative for members of the public to trust and collaborate with us by providing credible and timely information,” the NSCDC boss stated.

He maintained that proactive intelligence-sharing is the most effective tool for early intervention and the neutralization of threats before they manifest.

  • Zonal Commanders: Tasked with the rigorous monitoring of all formations within their jurisdictions.

  • State Commandants: Responsible for coordinating Area Commands, Divisional Offices, and specialized operational units.

  • Operational Scope: The strategy integrates both overt patrols and covert surveillance to provide maximum coverage of public spaces and government assets.

The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside sister security agencies to maintain peace and stability. In a statement released by the National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the Corps assured Nigerians that the beefed-up security presence is intended to create an environment conducive to both celebration and national development.

“Our unwavering commitment is to ensure a safe and secure environment,” Audi concluded, “and this can only be achieved with the active support of the public.”
