A former federal lawmaker has said President Bola Tinubu deserves re-election in 2027, citing what he described as a solid foundation laid by the administration for sustainable economic recovery.
The endorsement was made by a member of the Governing Board of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, during a family thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Obuohia Obi-Ibere, in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.
Onuigbo stated that although the policies of the Tinubu administration have been challenging, they are already yielding positive results. He argued that the reforms implemented so far have positioned the country on a path toward long-term economic stability and growth, warranting continuity beyond 2027.
According to the former lawmaker, key economic indicators show signs of gradual improvement. He cited official data pointing to moderation in inflation, a decline in food prices and progress in stabilising the foreign exchange market through the unification of rates.
He also identified the removal of fuel subsidy as a major reform, noting that it has eliminated the perennial fuel queues often associated with festive periods. Onuigbo said petrol is now more readily available, with filling stations competing for customers.
Expressing confidence in the administration’s leadership, he said Nigerians would reward what he described as courageous decision-making at the polls in 2027, adding that continuity is necessary to fully realise the benefits of the ongoing reforms.
Onuigbo, a two-term member of the House of Representatives who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, explained that the thanksgiving service was organised to appreciate God for guidance and protection over his family despite years of political and personal challenges.
He also announced plans to rebuild the church in his community as a mark of gratitude and commitment to giving back.
In his sermon, the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Oliver Aba, urged Christians to embrace gratitude and humility, encouraging them to acknowledge God’s role in their achievements.
The thanksgiving service was attended by several political leaders, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, and Senator Austin Akobundu, who represents Abia Central, among others.
