Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi have expressed heartfelt condolences to renowned author, Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, over the death of their son, Nkanu.

In a statement, Atiku Abubakar, who served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007, described the death of a child as an incomparable loss, noting that his thoughts and prayers are with the Adichie and Esege families, as well as their friends, during the period of mourning. He prayed that God grants the family strength, peace and solace to bear the painful loss.

Similarly, Peter Obi said he received the news of Nkanu’s passing with deep sorrow, revealing that he had closely followed the child’s illness since Ms Adichie informed him earlier this month. He said he shared in the family’s anxiety, offered prayers for recovery, and was profoundly heartbroken by the eventual outcome.

Mr Obi expressed personal devastation over the loss, particularly as a mother’s pain, and extended his condolences to Ms Adichie, Dr Esege and the entire family. He prayed that God grants them strength, comfort and grace in this moment of indescribable grief, and that Nkanu’s soul rests in perfect peace.
