Troops neutralise terrorists, rescue kidnapped minor in Zamfara

Troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 2, have recorded major successes in an ongoing offensive against terrorists and bandits in the Sububu Forests of Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

Confirming the report, Media Information Officer Operation FANSAN YAMMA Captain David Adewusi said the operation, aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring peace to the area, led to the neutralisation of six terrorists, the recovery of arms and ammunition, the destruction of key logistics assets, and the rescue of a kidnapped underage victim.

Military sources said the offensive began with a targeted engagement at Indulumu village, where troops confronted and neutralised two terrorists after a brief firefight. One AK-47 rifle was recovered during the operation.

The Strike Force subsequently advanced to Ruduno village, where troops met further resistance. In the ensuing engagement, four additional terrorists were neutralised. Items recovered included another AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, while two motorcycles used for mobility and logistics by the terrorists were destroyed at the scene.

In a significant humanitarian outcome, troops conducting further exploitation of the forest successfully rescued a kidnapped underage girl, identified as Halira Ibrahim. The rescue brought an end to her captivity and was described as a clear demonstration of the military’s commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens and countering kidnapping activities in the region.

The operation also extended to the destruction of multiple terrorist camps and life-support structures in Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga and Kukatara communities. Military authorities noted that the clearance of these camps has severely disrupted the terrorists’ operational capacity by denying them safe havens and logistical support.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its resolve to sustain pressure on terrorist elements across Zamfara State and the wider North-West until lasting peace and security are restored.
