NEMA, Fire Service contain blaze at chemical warehouse in Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Territorial Office, has responded to a fire outbreak at a chemical warehouse factory along the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, affected a warehouse storing chemical substances located beside SAPID. The fire spread rapidly to adjoining buildings housing bathroom fittings and doors.

Following a distress alert, NEMA promptly deployed response personnel to the scene, working in close collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other emergency stakeholders to contain the blaze.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the fire was triggered by a suspected container explosion within the chemical storage facility. The explosion reportedly caused flames to spread quickly to the roof of a nearby warehouse, with the presence of highly flammable materials intensifying the inferno.

The joint response teams successfully brought the fire under control and remain at the scene to extinguish residual hotspots and prevent any possible re-ignition.

Although initial findings point to the suspected container explosion as the immediate cause of the incident, investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fire.
