NDLEA launches ‘Operation Ramadan Mubarak’, arrests 13 in Kano raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested 13 suspects and seized assorted illicit substances following the launch of “Operation Ramadan Mubarak,” a special enforcement drive ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.

The intelligence-led operation, unveiled on February 12, 2026, is aimed at dismantling drug supply networks, strengthening patrol checkpoints and dislodging drug joints across the Kano metropolis and surrounding communities.

Under the leadership of Commander CN D.Y. Lawal, operatives conducted coordinated raids in Kofar Mata, Danzaki Village, Fagge, Kofar Wambai and Rimi areas, resulting in the arrest of 13 suspects, including two women.

Recovered items include cannabis sativa, diazepam, “suck and die” and rubber solution, substances commonly associated with abuse.

Speaking at the launch, Lawal said the operation was designed to prevent traffickers from exploiting the Ramadan period to distribute illicit drugs.

“Operation Ramadan Mubarak is intelligence-driven and proactive. Our objective is to protect worshippers, families and communities from the harms associated with drug abuse and to ensure that Kano remains peaceful and secure during this sacred period,” he stated.

The Command expressed concern that some criminal elements often target vulnerable persons during Ramadan, noting that drug abuse frequently contributes to violent and opportunistic crimes.

In line with directives from the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), the Kano Strategic Command said it would intensify patrols, reinforce checkpoints and sustain intelligence-driven operations to maintain public safety throughout the fasting season.

The agency called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or information related to drug trafficking to the nearest NDLEA office or through official communication channels, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to safeguarding public health and ensuring a peaceful Ramadan in Kano.
