The Nigeria Police Force in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced the deployment of thousands of security personnel across Abuja and its area councils ahead of the February 21, 2026 elections.
In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, of FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, said the deployment forms part of a comprehensive operational strategy designed to ensure a peaceful, free and fair electoral process. The operation involves joint collaboration with sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.
Dantawaye charged officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, remain impartial, and ensure robust security coverage at all polling units and collation centres. He emphasized the need for vigilance and respect for citizens’ rights throughout the electoral process.
The Command also announced a restriction of movement across the FCT from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day, February 21. The restriction will exempt essential service providers and duly accredited election officials.
Residents have been urged to comply with security guidelines and cooperate fully with law enforcement personnel. The police assured voters that adequate measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property, encouraging citizens to exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully and without fear.
Members of the public were further advised to report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
