The Defence Attachés of the United Kingdom and Germany to Nigeria have reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to supporting counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency efforts in the North East.
Brigadier Tom Harper of the United Kingdom and Colonel Boris Bovecamp of Germany gave the assurance during a visit to the Headquarters, Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri on Wednesday, February 18.
Brigadier Harper underscored the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, anchored on mutual respect and shared values such as democracy, the rule of law and human rights. He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sustained efforts in combating terrorism in the North East, particularly through Operation Hadin Kai, and reiterated the UK’s readiness to expand training assistance through the British Military Advisory and Training Team.

Similarly, Colonel Bovecamp said his visit was aimed at identifying new avenues for collaboration, especially in capacity building and regional cooperation frameworks that would enhance operational effectiveness in the fight against terrorism. He noted Germany’s interest in strengthening partnerships that contribute to improved coordination and long-term security outcomes.
In his remarks, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, applauded the contributions of both countries to ongoing counter-insurgency operations. He stated that existing training programmes have significantly improved troops’ proficiency and adaptability in addressing evolving security threats. The commander also identified potential areas for further cooperation, including technical expertise, equipment provision and logistics support.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
