The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to national security and road safety through enhanced data integration, following a strategic engagement with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The Corps Marshal commended NIMC for its progress in deepening Nigeria’s identity database and strengthening the National Identification Number (NIN) ecosystem. He also reiterated FRSC’s resolve to make the NIN mandatory for vehicle registration and the acquisition of the National Driver’s Licence, describing it as a critical step toward sanitising the motoring space and improving traceability within the road transport sector.
Shehu Mohammed further called for FRSC’s inclusion in NIMC’s Annual Identity Forum, highlighting the Corps’ pivotal role as a frontline identity manager through its driver licensing and vehicle registration functions. He noted that closer institutional collaboration would accelerate innovation, improve data accuracy, and enhance operational efficiency across agencies.
In response, NIMC Director General Adesoye Coker pledged the Commission’s full support for partnership initiatives with FRSC, particularly in data integration projects that advance crash reduction and national security objectives. She also commended the transformation and modernisation within FRSC, affirming that the strategic synergy between the two institutions will yield significant national benefits.
Officials described the meeting as a milestone in the Federal Government’s efforts to establish a harmonised, technology-driven identity architecture, aimed at strengthening governance, promoting accountability, and safeguarding lives on Nigerian roads.
