Troops arrest suspected gun-runner, recover 969 rounds in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have intercepted a suspected gun-runner and recovered 969 rounds of ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in Taraba State.

The operation, conducted on February 21, 2026, followed credible intelligence and was executed at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area. Acting on the intelligence, vigilant troops on sentry duty flagged down an Audi vehicle bearing registration number RBC 798 DV (Abuja).

Following a thorough search of the vehicle, the suspect, identified as Monday Reuben, 48, from Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, was arrested.

Items recovered from the vehicle include two AK-47 rifles; 197 empty magazines; one box of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammunition containing 250 rounds; 14 packs of 9mm Parabellum ammunition containing 700 rounds; and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition — bringing the total ammunition recovered to 969 rounds.

Troops also seized ₦2,440,000 in cash, a wallet containing four identification cards and four ATM cards, one Android phone, one Itel keypad phone, a power bank, eight bottles of perfume, a rechargeable touch light, and assorted local charms.

Military authorities confirmed that the suspect and the recovered items are in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism. He reiterated the Brigade’s resolve to sustain ongoing operations aimed at eliminating criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property in Taraba State.

He further affirmed that the Brigade’s reward and sanction policy remains in effect, noting that personnel involved in the successful operation will be recognised for their dedication and commitment to duty.
