Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Tuesday held talks with Mr. Charles Murito, Regional Director for Government Affairs and Public Policy (Sub-Saharan Africa) at Google, to advance discussions on a structured Nigeria–Google strategic partnership.
The meeting, held on February 24, 2026, built on earlier engagements between both parties in Davos and focused on deepening institutional collaboration at the intersection of technology, governance and regional stability.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the discussions centred on three key priorities: expanding long-term cooperation beyond digital infrastructure; institutionalising artificial intelligence (AI) skills development and knowledge transfer, including support for the Ministry’s AI Unit; and exploring anticipatory diplomacy tools aimed at strengthening information integrity and democratic resilience under the Regional Partnership for Democracy framework.
Both sides agreed that technical teams would continue engagements to define clear and implementable outcomes, particularly in areas linking AI innovation with governance reform and regional security architecture.
