Visitor arrested for concealing drugs at Agodi custodial centre

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Oyo State Command, has confirmed the arrest of a visitor who allegedly attempted to smuggle suspected hard drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Agodi, Ibadan.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC O.O. Anjorin, the suspect was apprehended at about 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, during routine security screening of visitors and their belongings at the facility’s entrance.

The male visitor, who claimed to be visiting an inmate, was found to have concealed substances suspected to be Colorado and hemp inside a portion of cooked rice. The items were discovered during a thorough search conducted by gate duty officers.

Officials said preliminary findings revealed inconsistencies in the suspect’s stated purpose for the visit, suggesting an attempt to evade detection.

The suspect was subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution. The handover was conducted by the Officer-in-Charge of the facility, Assistant Controller of Corrections Sunday Adekunmbi.

The Controller of Corrections, Oyo State Command, Osogun C. Olusegun, commended officers for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the Service’s commitment to maintaining security and operational integrity across custodial facilities in the state.

He warned that correctional centres in Oyo State remain under strict surveillance and that any attempt to smuggle prohibited items would be detected and dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Command urged members of the public to cooperate with correctional authorities and desist from engaging in unlawful activities.
