The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of a female officer who died following an accident during a simulation exercise at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.
The deceased officer, Assistant Superintendent of Corps Ogbodo Ene Victoria, sustained fatal injuries in an auto accident that occurred during a Tactical Rescue Operation simulation involving kidnapped schoolchildren. The exercise was conducted by the Corps’ Female Strike Force as part of activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day, observed annually by member nations across the globe.
She was immediately evacuated to the Intensive Care Unit of Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel to stabilise her condition, she later succumbed to her injuries.
In a statement issued by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, ACC Babawale Afolabi, the Commandant General described the incident as tragic and shocking. He prayed for the repose of the officer’s soul and extended his sympathies to her immediate family and to officers and men of the Corps nationwide.
Professor Audi directed a high-powered delegation from the National Headquarters to visit the bereaved family and assured that the late officer would be accorded befitting burial rites. He further pledged that all her entitlements and post-service benefits would be promptly processed and paid to her next of kin.
While urging personnel not to be discouraged by the unfortunate development, the NSCDC boss charged officers and men of the Corps to remain steadfast in the discharge of their duties.
He also noted that the accident underscored the importance of strict adherence to safety standards and operational protocols during training and simulation exercises. According to him, enhanced safety precautions and proper coordination are critical to preventing similar incidents, particularly given the operational risks inherent in the Corps’ mandate.
