The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kaduna Zonal Directorate, has successfully arrested 15 men suspected of engaging in the illegal trafficking of radioactive solid minerals.
The suspects were intercepted on Sunday, March 8, 2026, along Suleja-Maji Road in Niger State. Authorities said the individuals were transporting the radioactive materials in three large trucks, destined for multiple locations across Nigeria. The purpose of the transportation remains under investigation, as the seized minerals are considered highly hazardous.

According to EFCC sources, the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to curb the illicit trade of natural resources, which poses serious environmental and security risks. “The illegal movement of radioactive substances is a matter of grave concern to national security and public safety,” the Commission stated.
The 15 suspects are currently being held at the Kaduna Zonal Directorate, where they are undergoing thorough investigation. EFCC has indicated that upon completion of the inquiries, the individuals will face prosecution in court in accordance with the nation’s laws governing radioactive materials and financial crimes.
Officials have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to the handling or transportation of radioactive minerals, emphasizing that collaboration with citizens is critical in combating such high-risk criminal operations.
