The Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH, Christian Akokota, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Navy to the welfare of retired personnel and families of fallen servicemen.
Commodore Akokota gave the assurance on Thursday during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigerian Legion, Bayelsa State Council, to the naval base.
The delegation was led by the State Chairman of the Legion, Baratuaipre D. Allison-Alanimi, who emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration between the Legion and serving naval units in order to enhance support for veterans and their families.
In his remarks, Akokota commended the Nigerian Legion for its sustained efforts in supporting ex-servicemen and preserving the legacy of personnel who served the nation.
He noted that the welfare of veterans and widows of deceased service members remains a priority for the Navy, assuring the delegation of the base’s continued logistical and welfare support within available resources.
The visit also provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange ideas on strengthening engagement with veterans and sustaining the enduring bond between serving and retired military personnel.
