CoAS, IGP call for stronger security coordination

The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has emphasised that a unified and coordinated approach among security agencies remains essential to tackling Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

According to Acting Director, Army Public Relations Col. Appolonia Anele, the CoAS made the remark while receiving the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during a maiden familiarisation visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja on March 25, 2026.

During the visit, the IGP stressed the need for enhanced collaboration and sustained inter-agency synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force to effectively address internal security threats. He commended the longstanding partnership between both institutions, describing it as critical to achieving national security objectives.

Disu also lauded the Army’s role in capacity building, particularly its support in training personnel of the Police Mobile Force, noting that the initiative has improved operational effectiveness across various theatres. He further assured of continued intelligence sharing and coordinated operations to strengthen joint security efforts.

In his response, the Army Chief congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to deepening inter-agency cooperation in line with his command philosophy.

Shaibu noted that both officers share a history of professional collaboration dating back to their service in the United Nations Mission in Darfur, highlighting a foundation of cooperation in complex operational environments.

He also acknowledged the support of the police in ongoing operations in Kogi, Kwara and Niger states, where joint efforts against banditry and kidnapping have recorded progress.

The Army Chief assured of continued military support to the police, reiterating that only a well-coordinated inter-agency framework can deliver sustainable peace and security across the country.
